Above James Henry IZOD (1842-1915) (Alan Izod's gt.grandfather - see Chipping Campden researcher's page) whose 3xgt.grandfather was John IZOD (bap.1689/90 in Chipping Campden. d.1741 in Cropthorne, Wor.)

Nathan Izod will, dated 23 July, and proved at Gloucester 16 Oct., 1716, he distributed his estate, valued at £2,100, as follows:
To Nathan, his son testator's dwelling at Westington and 2 yardlands belonging to it, a messuage there called the Overhouse, then in the possession of Jno. GREENAWAY, two yardlands there, which testator held by lease, and the lowermost meadow, belonging to the Foxberrys, in Weston-sub-Edge (This land is by Weston Park), lately purchased by testator.
To Wm., his son, the remainder of the Foxberrys, called the Great Ground, the messuage in Westington lately built by testator, and 4 yardlands there belonging to said messuage.
To Mary, his daughter, wife of Wm. EDEN, a feather bed.
To Hannah, his daughter, wife of Jno. PERRY, £200.
To Mrs, Anne HASWELL, his daughter, the money owing to him by his son John.
To daughter Sarah IZOD £500.
Sons Nathan and Wm. and daughter Sarah residuary legatees.
Ann IZOD died a spinster in 1772, leaving a will by which she bequeathed her lands at Upton Snodsbury and Grafton Flyford to trustees for the benefit of her sister Mary, who had married a Harwood, and her children Mary and Dulcibella.
Nathan IZOD, born 1690, died interstate about 1753-8, Nathan, his son, born 1728, married Lucy ----, and died interstate 1797, leaving issue William, born 1780, and Charles, born 1782. William lived at Westington, and in his time the enclosure took place, and he was allotted land at Catbrook and on Broad Campden Hill in lieu of the two yardlands that had been purchased by his ancestor John.

In the name of God Amen I Ann IZOD of Chipping Campden in the County of Gloucester Spinster being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following First I give and devise all those my freehold lands tenements and hereditaments which I hold in fee simple situate lying and being in Upton Snodsborough and Grafton Flyford in the County of Worcester with the rents issues and proffits of all and singular in the said premises unto Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS both of Clapton in the County of Gloucester To have and to hold the said lands tenements hereditaments and premises to them the said Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS their executors Administrators and assignes in trust Nevertheless and to the intent and purpose that they the said Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS do and shall pay and apply the Rents issues and proffits of my said land and Tenements or thereby arising in manner following that is to say One third part of the rents issues and proffits of my said estates unto such person or persons and for such uses and purposes as my sister Mary HARWOOD shall direct or appoint, to the Intent that the same may not be at the disposal of or liable to the control debts forfeitures or engagements of her present or any future husband but only at her own sole and separate disposal and for her own separate use and benefit And also do and shall pay and apply the residue of the rents issues and proffits of my said estate unto my neices Mary and Dulcibella HARWOOD equally share and share alike And I hereby Give devise and bequeath my said lands Tenements and hereditaments with their and every of their appurtenances above mentioned from and immediately after the decease of my said sister Mary HARWOOD unto my said neices Mary and Dulcibella HARWOOD To hold the same to their heirs and assignes for ever. Also I give and bequeath all my ready money and securities for money whatsoever and wheresoever unto the said Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS upon this special trust and confidence in them reposed that they the said Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS do and shall pay and apply the neat interest thereof unto my said sister Mary and my said neices Mary and Dulcibella HARWOOD equally to be divided between them share and share alike during my said sister's life and from immediately after her decease I give and bequeath all my said money and securities for money unto my said neices equally to be divided between them share and share alike Also I give and bequeath unto the said Henry ROBERTS and Joseph ROBERTS One feather Bed Bedstead Bolster and pillow, one pair of Holland Sheets and four pair of Flaxen Sheets , half a dozen of chairs, a chest of Drawers and part of my china, and also one large Silver Spoon and two tea spoons upon this further trust and confidence in them reposed that they do permit and suffer my said sister to have the use of the before mentioned Bequests during her natural life and from and after her decease I give and bequeath the same unto my said neices share and share alike Also I give and bequeath unto William HARWOOD if living the sum of one shilling Also I give unto Henry ROBERTS the younger one large silver spoon And all the rest of my plate linnen china and furniture not herein before disposed of I give and bequeath unto my said neices to be equally divided between them share and share alike And I hereby nominate and appoint my said sister Mary and neices Mary and Dulcibella HARWOOD Sole Executrixes hereof hereby revoking all former Will and Wills by me heretofore made and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal this Fifth day of May in the year of our Lord 1772

This is the last Will and Testament of me Ann IZOD of Tewkesbury in the County of Gloucester widow for the disposition of that estate wherewith I am blessed and have power to dispose of First I give and bequeath to my nephew William WOOD of Tewkesbury aforesaid shoemaker the sum of five pounds I give and bequeath to Mary LAMB and Ann LAMB the daughters of Mary LAMB of Elmly CASTLE widow and to each of them the sum of fourty shillings to be paid out by their said mother in putting them to school I give and bequeath to my nephew James the son of Henry IZOD of Grafton the like sum of fourty shillings I give to my Brother in Law the said Henry IZOD the elder of Grafton aforesaid my Beauroe I also give to my Niece the wife of Henry IZOD the younger my mourning gown my black Quilted pettycoat two shifts and one suit of broad cloth I give and bequeath to Margaret the wife of William STEW of Kemerton my cam... gown my blue(?) quilted pettycoat a couple of shifts & two suits of broad cloth I also give and bequeath unto Mr William CLIFTON of Tewkesbury aforesaid Maltster and to his sister Ms Sarah CLIFTON and to each of them one Guinea I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth OASELAND servant maid to the said Mr CLIFTON one cotton gown and two shifts I give and bequeath unto the widow NIND of Newton one hood and cloak and one pair of black silk gloves I give and bequeath unto Ann the wife of John JEYNES of Northway one pair of my best cotton gloves one muslin apron and one cambrick handkerchief the legacies aforesaid to be given paid and delivered within three months after my decease all the rest residue and remainder of my linnen cloathes goods chattels and all other my reall and personall estate whatsoever I give devise and bequeath unto John WOOD of Conderton in the County of Worcester Yeoman and do make him sole executor of this my last will & Testament and desire that I may be buryed at Ashchurch in the said County of Gloucester and that the expenses of my funeral may not exceed the sum of six pounds and I do revoke all former wills by me at any time hereto ....made and declare this to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of June one thousand seven hundred and fourty three.

THE WILL OF NICHOLAS IZOD 1728
In the name of God Amen. I Nicholas IZOD of Broad Campden in the parish of Chipping Campden in the County of Gloucester, yeoman being of body sick and weak , but of sound mind understanding and memory . God be praised, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say, I commend my soul to God also I give it and my body I commit to the earth in hope of a joyful rejuvination.
And as for such worldly estates and goods herewith it hath pleased God of his infinite goodness to bless me igive and dispose thereof as follows. I give and bequeath unto my loving son James all my one yardlands and close of arable meadows and pastures with the apportaments now in my own possession and all other my closes, lands tenements and heriditaments and whatforever lying and being within the town fields liberties and parish of Broad Campden and all my estate ---- and number of species therein. To hold unto my son the said James IZOD immediately from and after the death of my wife. And my will is that my said son James shall and will within twelve months after he shall be possessed of the said yardlands and estates pay unto the eight children of my son Nicholas IZOD the sum of seventy pounds to be divided between them share and share alike and paid to them at their respective ages of one and twenty years, but if any of them shall die before they attain that age I will that the part and share of him, her or them shall be paid to the survivor or survivors of them share and share alike. And I give unto my said son James all the rest and residue of my goods Chattels and personal effects soever and make and nominate him sole executot of this will. In the witness thereof I set my hand and seal this Seventh Day of October in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seaven Hundred and Twenty Eight.

In the name of God Amen
The first day of February in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty and two I Henry IZOD of Chipping Campden in the County of Gloucester victualer being sick in body but of good and perfect memory Doe make my Last will and Testament in manner and forme as followeth Imprimus I give and bequeath my soul to Allmighty god my creator and to Jesus Christ my redeemer by the ....... of whose death and passion I doe ....... believe to inherit everlasting happiness with him in hismheavenly kingdom And my body I give to be interred at the discretion of myne Executor And my worldly goods I give as followeth First I give and bequeath unto Henry Izod my only sonne one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid him by my executor of this my last will and Testament to the said Henry Izod when he is of the age of one and twenty yeares And also I give unto the said Henry IZOD my sonne twenty pounds more to binde him an apprentice if there be occasion for so much to sett him to a honest master I give to the poore of Chipping Campden the summe of thirty shillings to be delivered to them in bread And give unto my cosens Henry DIRKAMIGE and ......... "In the name of God Amen the six and twentieth day of July in this year of our Lord God one thousand and seven(?) hundred & one I John IZOD of Westington in the County of Gloucestershire yeoman being aged & weak in body but of sound & disposing mind & understanding do make ordaine & deliver(?) my last Will & Testement in manner & forme following but first I command my soule into the hands of almighty God in hopes of eternal life through the mercy(?) of Jesus Christ my blessed saviour & Redeemer and my body I committ to the earth to bee intered in such decent manner as my Executors shall think fitt And as for such worldly goods and estate as God of his great goodness & mercy hath bestowed upon me I dispose thereof as follows Impremis I give and bequeath unto my son John IZOD the sum of fifty pounds of good english money to be paid by my executors hereafter named within three months after my decease(?) And I do likewise give to my said son John all that my half yard land with the appertancies(?) lying in the fields(?) of Berrington in the county of Gloucester for & during so many years of the term which I have therein to come .. as the said John IZOD shall happen to live and from & after his decease then I give & bequeath the said half yard land & all the rest residue & remainder of the term and Estate therein then to run & unexpired unto my two Grandsons Nicholas & William two of the sons of my said son John IZOD equally betwixt them. Then I give to my son Nathan all that my messuage or tenent with the appurtonses wherein I now do dwell in Westington aforesaid together with the two yardlands thereunto belonging for & during so many years tenent(?) & estate which I have therein to come as have my said son Nathan shall happen to live and I give the remains of the same Tenent(?) unto my Grandson Nathan IZOD from the demise of his father for and during all the rest & residue of my former estate & interest which shall be there ..... in the said messuage and two yard lands. Then I give & bequeath unto my daughter Mary Charles & her assignes my house & two yard lands called Palmers in Westington aforesaid with the appurtonses & all my estate term & interest therein to be at her own disposing at her decease amongst her children. I then give to my daughter Anne RAYER my messuage or tenent & two yard lands called Warners with the appurtances in Westington aforesaid for and during so many years of the term therein to come as shall the said Anne shall happen to live and from and after her decease I give ownership to her son John RAYER and the moiety thereof to William IZOD the son of my son Nathan to hold to them severally for & during all the rest residue and remainder of the tenent(?) & estate which shall therein then to come & unexpired Then I give unto my said son Nathan IZOD all that my messuage and f...ey lands thereunto belonging with the appertences(?) in Westington aforesaid in the tenure or occupation of my brother Nicholas IZOD to have & to hold the same to him his executors & admin & assignes for & during all the residue of the tenure(?) which I have therein to come upon condition that he my said son Nathan his heirs and assignes shall thereout(?) yearely pay unto my said brother Nicholas IZOD the annuity or sum of five(?) pounds and unto my daughter Hannah GIBBS one annuity or yearly sum of twenty pounds of lawfull money for & during so many years of the tenure which(?) is therein to come as they the said Nicholas & Hannah shall severally and respectively live the same annuity to be paid at ...... & Lady Day by equall payments to begin on the first of the said days that shall happen next after my decease But my will & meaning is that the said annuity so as aforesaid limited .... my daughter Hannah shall be paid by my son Nathan into her propper hands & that her now husband or any other husband with whome .... may hereafter happen to marry shall not have any power to intermeddle therewith & that the same money may be at her own disposing.
Then I give to my daughter Sarah WILSON the sum of one hundred & fifty of lawfull money of England to be at her own disposal and I do appoint that the sum shall be kept & remain in the hands of .. my executor for he separate & sole use paying her interest for the same after(?) the sum(?) of of five pounds in cash(?) untill she shall require the same to be layd out in a purchase or to be otherwise by her disposed as she shall think fitt & that her husband shall not have anything to do therewith or any power to demand or require(?) the same And whereas I formerly lent the sum of Two hundred pounds unto my son in law William RAYER & the same resting in his hand I do give the said two hundred pounds unto & amongst the children of my daughter RAYER to be equally divided amongst them And whereas I and my said son Nathan have lately purchased to us and our heirs jointly of one George TOWNSEND Gent certain land & closes in Mickleton in the said County of Glousr called Townsends ground the said purchased lands as yet undivided I do give & divise all my undivided moiety share & proposition of & in the said lands in Mickleton aforesaid & all my rights & title & interest therein either in law or equity unto my said son Nathan
IZOD his heirs & assignes for ever but the said Nathan or his heirs paying out of the said land unto any of my grandchildren hereafter mentioned the sum of Twenty pounds a piece at the several & respective times hereafter mentioned (that is to say) to John & Nicholas the sons of my oldest son being now apprentices at the end or expiration of their respective apprenticeships & to William another son & Mary the daughter of my said son John at their respective ages of twenty years & in the meantime my executor to pay to each of them the said William & Mary Twenty shillings a year for the interest thereof And to the children of my said son Nathan & of my daughters Mary CHARLES & Sarah WILSON the like sum of Twenty pounds apeice at their several & respective ages of sixteen years And to the five oldest children of my daughter Hannah the like sum of Twenty pounds apeice to be paid to them at their several & respective age & ages of one & twenty years and in the meantime to remain in the hands of my son Nathan he paying interest for the sum yearly into the hands of their mother for & towards their support & maintenance after the rate of five pounds per cent during the minority of the said five children Then I give to my Niece Elizabeth IZOD the sum of Ten pounds of lawfull money and five pounds to the poore of the parish of Chipping Campden aforesaid to be distributed in such manner & proportions and unto & amongst such poore people of the said parish as my Executor in his discretion shall think fitt provided always and my will and meaning is that in case my eldest son or any other of the said legatees be not content with the legacy hereby given or shall argue claim or demand any further or greater interest of or unto any real or personal estate than what is or are hereby given or devised to him her or them respectively according to the said & natural sons & meaning of this my last Will & Testament Then the legacy given to him her or them so distributed on being quarrelsom contentious or litigious touching their respective legacy or concerning the disposing of my said estates shall be utterly voyd & forfeited to my executor & I do hereby constitute & make my son Nathan IZOD sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament And ... give devise & bequeath unto him the said Nathan his heirs Executor and Admin of all & singular other the rest & residue of my messuage land & Tenency & hereditament moneys goods & chattells & all my ..... and ....... Estate whatsoever before herein & hereby not disposed have paying & discharging all my just debts legacys & funeral charges And my will & meaning further is hereby testifyed & detailed that in case any or either of the child or children before mentioned shall happen to dye before his or her legacy or legacys shall become due & payable according to the true intent & meaning of this my last Will then the legacy or legacys of him or her or them so dying shall remain & be distributed unto & amongst the brothers & sisters of him or her so dyeing & not to my Executor or parents of the party so dyeing.
