A True Terrier of the Glebe Land, Houses and Tythes belonging to the Vicarage of Chedworth in the County of Glocester, as it was taken by the view of sundry of the most ancient Inhabitants, whose Names are underwritten, in November A.D. 1623

Imprimiss A mansion or dwelling House, a Dove House, a Barn, two stables, a Cow House, a Pig’s Coat.
Item One Orchard, 2 Gardens
Item One Close containing about an Acre of Ground, lying on the West side of the said Orchard, and another Close of about 2 Acres lying on the East Side of the said Orchard.
Item A third Close called St John’s, containing about 3 half acres, lying near unto the Beacon in St John’s Field.
Item Another Close called Amstone, about 3 Acres, lying next unto an Inclosure of Thomas Hall’s.
Item Another Close called Well Close, about 3 half Acres, lying partly next unto a Close of John Bicknel’s, and partly next unto a Close of William Coates’s.
Item A Close called Hill Close, lying next unto several Closes of Edmund Haynes, being on either side of ye same.
Item A Close called Mab Hay being scant half an Acre, adjoining to a Close of William Coates’s on ye one side, and next unto the common Street on the other.
Item There belong to the said Vicarage, 4 Parcels of Pasture Ground called Farundels, one Farundel next to John Bicknel’s Orchard, another shooting upon Edward Foster’s several Grounds, William Lawrence having a Farundel lying betwixt them two: A third lying next to the little Brook there in the Bottom: and ye 4th doth headen two several Closes of Edmund Haynes, and also two other several of John Bicknels on either side of it.
Memorandum that the first of these Farundels (or quarter Acres) I found exchanged by my predecessor for a Farundel of William Lawrence’s, lying next to the third by the Brook, so that now three of them are in a little Close together by the Brook side which Exchange for the more convenience of having 3 together and inclosed, I did continue at my coming to the Vicarage: but thought good hereby to give Notice thereof , that if any of my successors do find any grievance thereby, they may return to their own. -- Robert Sawyer Vicar
Item The Pasture of the Church Yard
Item There doth belong to the said Vicarage a Yearly Payment of 6s8d from the SchoolMaster of Northleach, as Occupier of the Parsonage. This Pension is confirmed by a Degree in Chancery under the Great Seal of England.
Item There belongeth to ye said Vicarage by Ancient Right the third part of all Manner of Tythes whatsoever yearly growing renewing within the said Parish without Exception.
Item There belong to the Glebe Land Yearly one Hundred and forty Sheep’s Pasture, & a BelWether, & 10 Beasts Pasture.
Item By comon Estimation & Report there belong unto ye said Vicarage 2 Yards & a half of arable Land by the Year: whereof so much is known to be in use & occupation as followeth.
First in the Wood Field
There is only one Acre butting upon Drover Way, at a Place called Horseleyes, a Plot of 2 Acres of Richard Stevens’ lying on the one side of it.
Secondly in Chittle Grove (or West) Field
Inprimis Two Acres in a furlong called Farandels, butting upon a headland of Thomas Robins’ on the one end, overshooting upon a plot of 4 Acres of Richard Cotes’ on the other end.
Item A plot of 3 halfAcres a little above Rentcombe Pathshooting into Fieldnow Way: an Acre of Thomas Hall’s being next to it on the home side.
Item An Acre shooting upon ye last mentioned 3 halfAcres, an Acre of John Bicknels lying next to it on the home side.
Item In a Furlong called Oldensale 2 Acres shooting into Fieldnow Way, between an Acre of Edmund Haynes’, and an Acre of Richard Robins’ of the Hill.
Item At ye further End thereof one Acre shooting next upon ye same piece.
Item In the same Furlong, a Thorough shooter halfacre, next saving one Acre of Richard Stevens’, to ye same single Acre aforesaid.
Item 2 Acres not far from Bat’s Thorn shooting upon an Acre of John Bicknels’.
Item In the same Oldensales Furlong, one halfAcre, lying between an Acre of John Roberts’, & halfan Acre of Edward Baldwin’s.
Item In the same Furlong 3 half Acres called Pix, shooting into Fieldnow Way.
Item In Pinkwell Slade Bottom, one Acre lying next to a Farundel of Edmund Haynes on the home side.
Item A little Acre shooting upon the Way near Fieldnow Gate John Bicknel having an halfAcre lying next between ye said Gate and it.
One Acre lying upon ye side of the Hill in Pinkwell Slade shooting upon Fieldnow Hedge: an Acre of William Lawrence lying next it on the Field Ward Side, and an Acre of Richard Steven’s next it on the home ward side. An half Acre shooting upon ye same Hedges, next to an Acre of John Roberts on the Fieldward side.
Item An half Acre at the end of ye same Hedge, shooting over Ciceter Way, and butting upon another Acre of the said Vicarage Glebe Land, which shooteth towards a place called Long Barrow: an Acre of Thomas Hills’s lying next to it on the Fieldward side, and an Acre of Edmund Haynes next it on the Homeward side.
Item 3 half Acres shooting a little too short of Ciceter Way and down toward Pinkwell Slade Thomas Jones having an Acre next it on the home side.
Item One Acre in the same Furlong shooting up into Ciceter Way, William Lawrence having a Land next it on the Field side.
Item One Acre hard by Caumsden Stone shooting up into Ciceter Way, next unto a headland Acre of John Bicknel’s.
Item One Acre butting down upon ye same Acre on the upper side of Ciceter Way, next to an Acre of Edward Baldwin’s on ye one side, and an half Acre of Thomas Childe’s on ye other side.
Item One half Acre in ye same furlong shooting down upon Cicester Way. Edmund Haynes having an half Acre next it on ye Homeside.
Item An headland Acre in ye same Furlong, shooting down into Ciceter Way, heading a furlong called pease furlong, John Bicknel having an Acre next it on the field side.
Item 2 Acres at a place called Long Barrow shooting upon Chittle Grove, John Roberts having an Acre next it on ye field side.

Item An Acre in the Bottom on ye right hand of Ciceter Way, lying between an Acre of William Lawrence’s on ye one side, and an Acre of Gabriel Robin’s on the other side.
Item 2 Acres at the Vicar’s Bush, lying next to the same Acre of William Lawrence aforesaid.
Item One Acre in hilwall furlong, shooting into Hilwall Way, Thomas Hall having an half Acre on ye one side, and Edward Baldwin an Acre on the other side.
Item One Acre at Barton Cross lying by Ciceter Way side, next to a half Acre of John Westmacot’s.
Item 3 half Acres in hilwall furlong, lying next to Fieldnow hedge, & shooting upon Hilwall Gate.
Item 2 Acres shooting upon Hillwall Close, by Hilwall Wayside.
Item An half acre shooting upon homeward End of the same 2 Acres. Edward Baldwin having an Acre next to it on the field side, between Hilwall Way & it.
Item A little Acre butting upon 3 Acres of John Bicknel’s called Gaston piece lying next to an Acre of William Cotes on ye homeward side.
Item An half Acre more in the same Place, the said half Acre of Edward Forsters lying between it and the single Acre aforesaid.
Item 3 half Acres shooting along by fieldnow=Wayside, called the Vicar’s Pix, shooting upon a headland of William Lawrence.
Item An Acre a little Way distant from ye said Pix, called Piper’s Acre.
Item An half acre on the homeward side of Cooke’s Hall, an half acre of Richard Coate’s lying on the further side.
Item An Acre below the said Cooke’s Hall, next unto a headland halfacre of one Widow Midwinters.
Item An Acre in the same furlong next unto 3 halfacres of Richard Robins of ye Hill, on ye upper side, between ye said Hall and it.
Item A headland halfacre at ye further Ends of ye said former Lands.
Item A farundel shooting along close by ye said Hall Richard Coates having Land next it on ye one side & John Wilson a headland farundel on the other.
Item An headland Acre shooting down upon Pinkwell Slade Bottom, John Bicknell having 2 Acres next it.
Item 3 farundels in a furlong called Copple, one End thereof butting upon the End of a headland Acre of William Lawrence and ye other upon ye End of Edward Fosters

Item An half Acre more in ye said fieldnow furlong, ye said William Cotes having an half Acre next it on ye homeside, and Rick Stevens an Acre next it on the field side.

Item An Acre shooting over hilwall Way at a place called Middle Sets Thomas Morse having an Acre next it on the field side & Richard Robins de Hill an Acre next it on the home side.
Item Another Acre in Hilwall furlong, shooting over hilwall Way at Mason Sets, an half Acre of Thomas Jones being next it on the field side, and a thorough shooter Acre of Thomas Hall’s next it on the home side.
Item An Acre of small (word missing), being headed on both sides on ye one End. Testified by Thomas Winning to belong to the Glebe.
Item 3 half acres being a thorough shooter, butting down toward Oldgore Gates, an Acre of John Bicknel’s, being likewise a thorough shooter, lying next by the homeward side of it.
Item An halfacre shooting down at forse Cross, next unto 3 halfacres of William Lawrence.
Item An Acre in the Force Furlong, a little nearer homeward than that former, Gabriel Robins having an Acre next it on the field side, and John Bicknel an halfacre next it on the home side.
Item An Acre shooting over the Bottom at Batts Thorn, John Westmacot having an acre next it on the home side, both shooting into the woodway there.
Item An halfacre in the same furlong, shooting into fieldnow Way, next to an Acre of Edward Foster’s on the home side.

Item An Acre in the furlong called broken Gores, shooting down upon ye Hedge there, an Acre of Edmund Haynes lying next it on the homeside, & an Acre of Thomas Childe’s next it on the field side.
Item An half acre in Crab Tree Bottom, John Hampshire having an half Acre next it on the home side.
Item An half Acre in the same Bottom, at the lower end of the former halfacre, next to an Acre of Thomas Morse’s called Crab Tree Acre.
Item An half Acre in the same bottom, lying at the End of the half acre last mentioned, an halfacre of John Bicknels next it on the home side.
Item Another half acre in ye same Bottom, at the end of the said half acre last mentioned, shooting along close by Caumsden Hedge there at the Upper End of Oldgore.

Item Another Acre in ye said Hilwall furlong shooting into Hilwall Way, an Acre of William Lawrence next it on the field side, and an Acre of John Wilson’s next it on ye home side.
Lastly another Acre in ye same furlong, the said Wilson’s Acre onely lying between this and the last mentioned.

There belongs likewise to the said Vicarage a certain House or Tenament called Piper’s, standing in a plot of Ground less than a farundel, lying next to the common Street before Edmund Haynes House on the one side and next to to a little Close of John Bicknel’s on ye other.

This Terrier taken the year aforesaid 1623 was subscribed.

In the Account of ye Beast Pastures and Sheep Pastures belonging to ye Parish of Chedworth as ye several Inhabitants of ye said Parish stood intitled and agreed to at ye Court held for ye said March the 10th day of October in ye first year of ye Reign of Queen Anne 1702 witnessed by a great number of ye Inhabitants it appears that ye Vicar of Chedworth was entitled to one hundred and fifty sheep pastures & Ten Beast Pastures.
