While with the White Rock/Surrey Naturalists. The late Rene Savenye (see Blackey Spit page) lead his annual inter-tidal walk at the foot of 1001 Steps, Ocean Park. Formerly a teacher at Princess Margaret High School, Surrey until retirement. During his last hunt on July 26, 2002, the amateur naturalist was struck by lightning near Lake Louise.
